Jinzhai Road Viaduct is the first viaduct in Hefei City. Officially starting construction on September 30, 2006, and after 1 year and 4 months of day and night construction, the project was successfully completed on February 5, 2008 at zero point, achieving the bridge on the bridge, "double through". Jinzhai Road Viaduct is south of 312 State Road, connecting the He'an Road, north to the south of the first ring Tunxi Road, and connected to the Jintun Interchange Bridge. The total length of the ground road is 7.7 kilometers, with six lanes in both directions. The viaduct features 7.4 kilometers of the main line, six lanes in both directions, and a design speed of 60 to 80 kilometers per hour. After completion, driving from Taoxianglou to the open area was shortened from the original 40 minutes to less than 10 minutes.
The Jinzhai Road elevated project road covers a total area of 345,827 square meters, with a total bridge area of 262,346 square meters and a green area of 121,215 square meters. It is divided into two parts: the bridge and the ground road. The bridge part starts 227 meters north of the 312 national highway, extending north to the first ring road to connect with the existing Jintun overpass. The bridge main line length is 7232 meters, with a cumulative ramp length of 7178 meters. The standard width of the bridge is 25.5 meters for bidirectional six-lanes, widening to 42.5 meters at the ramp sections. North of Huangshan road, it features a bidirectional four-lane configuration of 17.5 meters, with unidirectional two-lane ramps at a width of 8.5 meters. The bridge generally maintains a 6.5-7.5 meters clearance.
The ground level road part extends from 312 National Highway to the north side of the Wuhu Road intersection, totaling 7720 meters in length. The standard cross-section width is 60 meters: the bridge abutment covers 7 meters, and the carriageway features six lanes in both directions measuring 12 meters × 2. The configuration includes 3 meters × 2 for machine and non-divider, 3.5 meters × 2 for non-motorised road, 1.5 meters × 2 for non-motorised road and green divider of footpath, 3.5 meters × 2 for footpath, and a 3 meters × 2 green belt on the outer side. The up and down ramp cross-section width is 64 meters, of which the bridge abutment occupies 7 meters, and the ramps occupy 9.5 meters × 2; the carriageway features four lanes in both directions measuring 8.5 meters × 2, machine and non-mixed lanes at 7 meters × 2, and pavement at 3.5 meters × 2. North of Huangshan Road, the cross-section width is 61 meters, where the bridge abutment occupies 5 meters, the ramps occupy 9 meters × 2, the carriageway is four lanes in both directions measuring 8.25 meters × 2, and the machine and non-mixed lanes are 7 meters × 2, with footpaths measuring 3.75 meters × 2.
On January 21, 2016, the earliest built and opened Jinzhai Road viaduct was extended south to the town of Feixi County to promote the development of the southwestern area. The Jinzhai Road viaduct widening (South Second Ring – Xi You Road) project spans from the South Second Ring in the north to Xi You Road in the south, about 1.82 kilometers long. After widening, this section of the viaduct accommodates 9 bidirectional lanes (widened from the original 6 lanes), with 4 lanes on the eastern half and 5 lanes on the western half. The ground auxiliary road underwent synchronous transformation, maintaining the status quo of a two-way 8-lane scale. On November 29, 2022, construction formally commenced on the widening project. On June 20, 2023, the rapid transformation of the main line viaducts on Jinzhai Road (Fangxing Avenue – Wangshui Road) was opened to traffic. With the Jinzhai Road Viaduct Tied Wide Project advanced to 95%, the main bridge was completed and opened to traffic before the National Day. At 22:00 on December 31, the mainline bridge of the Jinzhai Road South Expressway Reconstruction (Wangshui Road – Station Road) Project opened to traffic, completing all elevated parts of the Jinzhai South Road rapid transformation.
Bridge Structure
The bridge adopts a cast-in-situ inclined web continuous box girder structure, characterized by excellent overall performance, high torsional rigidity, large spanning capacity, and adaptability to changes in plan line shape and bridge width. The structure is simple and light with smooth lines, providing a transparent and open vision under the bridge for smooth traffic.
The domestic largest span stacked beams were implemented in the Jinzhai Road elevated section for the first time: the Wangjiang intersection span reaches 56 meters using steel box girders with reinforced concrete panels, and the second ring road intersection of the main line features the largest span of 68 meters of reinforced concrete stacked beams. Hefei city construction history also introduced internal drainage technology for the first time on this bridge: all concrete piers were poured with reserved drainage pipes connecting directly to the ground drainage network, eliminating the external pipes that historically affected the visual appeal of the piers.
