Jinzhai Road Viaduct is the first viaduct in Hefei City. Officially started on September 30, 2006, after 1 year and 4 months of intensive construction, it was successfully completed on February 5, 2008. This landmark project achieved a "double through" bridge-on-bridge structure. Connecting 312 State Road in the south to the Tunxi Road interchange in the north, the project spans a total ground length of 7.7 kilometers and a main viaduct line of 7.4 kilometers. With six lanes in both directions and design speeds of 60 to 80 km/h, it reduced travel time from Taoxianglou to the open area from 40 minutes to less than 10 minutes.
The ground level road section extends 7,720 meters with a standard cross-section width of 60 meters. The infrastructure includes dedicated lanes for motor vehicles, non-motorized transport, and footpaths, interspersed with green belts for environmental sustainability. Since 2016, the viaduct has undergone significant extensions and widening projects, reaching into Feixi County to stimulate southwestern regional development. Recent transformations in 2022 and 2023 have further expanded the capacity to 9 lanes in key sections, incorporating rapid transformation technologies to ensure Jinzhai Road remains a vital artery for modern urban transit.
Bridge Structure
The bridge adopts a cast-in-situ inclined web continuous box girder structure, characterized by exceptional torsional rigidity, large spanning capacity, and adaptability to complex plan line shapes. This design ensures a simple, light aesthetic with smooth lines that offer a transparent and open vision beneath the structure. Notably, the project utilized domestic largest-span stacked beams (up to 68 meters) and pioneered internal drainage technology within Hefei. By reserving drainage pipes inside the concrete piers, the design eliminates external piping, significantly improving the visual perception and maintenance efficiency of the viaduct.
